EASES 2025, the 6th European Academic Symposium on EAF Steelmaking, started on Wednesday 11 June 2025 in Ljubljana, Slovenia with a get-together in the centre of Ljubljana with drinks and snacks followed by a city tour. The next two days were filled with a programme of 27 presentations on EAF related topics structured in eight sessions. The presentations on Thursday focused on EAF modelling, simulation and efficiency as well as Slag and byproducts engineering, processing and valorization. The programme on the following Friday included sessions on Fossil-free raw materials, Process control and sensors and CO2 emission reduction and environmental impact.
One of the highlights of the program was the evening dinner on Thursday. It was held in a restaurant within Lubljana castle above the old town of Ljubljana. As part of the dinner the best paper award was presented to Sara Scolari from Politecnico di Milano for her paper on the "Quantitative phase analysis in carbon steel EAF slag for the determination of phase-controlled leaching mechanism". After the dinner, many participants enjoyed the fantastic view onto the city of Ljubljana.
At the end of the conference co-host Thomas Echterhof thanked everyone for contributing to a successful EASES 2025 by presenting, chairing a session or just by being there and participating in the lively discussions. Special thanks went to co-host Vito Logar and colleagues from the University of Ljubljana for hosting EASES 2025 and for the excellent organisation of the event.
