EASES is a recurring symposium dedicated to research on electric arc furnace steelmaking. The 6th EASES symposium was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 11–13 June 2025. The next edition is currently being planned.
Latest Symposium Summary
The 6th edition of this symposium was held from June 11th to 13th, 2025, at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The symposium was organised by the Laboratory of Control Systems and Cybernetics at the University of Ljubljana together with the Department of Industrial Furnaces and Heat Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. It provided a platform for researchers, doctoral candidates, and industry professionals to present and discuss current developments in electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking.
A total of 27 presentations were given at the symposium, out of which 12 were accompanied also by a full paper published in IOP Science Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS). Around 50 participants from academia and industry attended the symposium. The presentations covered topics such as modelling and simulation of EAF processes, the introduction of fossil‑free materials, CO₂ reduction strategies, and new approaches to EAF control.
About the Symposium
The European Academic Symposium on EAF Steelmaking brings together researchers, doctoral candidates, and industry professionals working on EAF steelmaking. The symposium provides a platform to present and discuss current research, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration within the EAF research community.
Key topics include efficiency and optimisation, process control and sensors, CO₂ emission reduction, process modelling and simulation, scrap treatment, alternative charge materials and processes, slag and by‑product valorisation, and the production of new steel grades.
